Do you need some design advice? Hire me on an as-needed, hourly basis, at any time before or during your remodeling or decorating project. Perhaps you have ideas and are just looking for a professional opinion. Or maybe you are stumped and don’t know where to begin. I will answer your design questions and offer ideas, suggestions and guidance as you lead me on a tour of your home. This introductory service is also a great way for us to get to know each other before undertaking larger, more complicated design projects

With thousands of paint colors to choose from, how do you know which color will be right for your home? Taking into account the lighting situation, your existing furnishings, your taste, lifestyle and vision, I will work with you to select the perfect colors for your home and leave you with a written plan.

Embarking on a bath or kitchen remodel? As your interior designer, my job is to work with you to determine your wants and needs for the project, create a customized design to satisfy those needs, then document that design and see it through construction. You’ll be assured that, not only will your remodeled space be practical and functional, but also that your flooring, cabinetry, tile, countertop, lighting, window and wall treatments will coordinate, look beautiful, and fit your taste and lifestyle.

HOW IT WORKS:

1. INITIAL CONSULTATION

We begin your kitchen or bath design with an initial consultation. Together we look at your project and discuss design and functionality issues. I ask you questions (and really listen to your answers): what works and what doesn’t? How will the space be used, and by whom? What do you want it to look and feel like when it’s done?

Within 24-48 hours, I will prepare a proposal for you that summarizes the project details, the services I will provide to design and implement your project, and my design fees for the project. Design fees are based on an estimated number of hours it will take to see your project from design through construction. You’ll receive an estimated range of hours, so you will know exactly what to expect.

2. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PHASE

I will create a functional layout of the space, including electrical and plumbing, appliances, and custom cabinetry design. I will also source options for tile, flooring, countertop, lighting and plumbing fixtures, wall and window treatments, cabinet hardware, and more. Code compliance is always taken into account when designing a space.

During this phase, I will present the design to you as it develops, and refine it to meet your aesthetic and functional needs.

To communicate your design, I will create and present floor plan drawings, elevations and renderings, as well as written specifications. These will be used to obtain contractor quotes.

3. IMPLEMENTATION PHASE

Once the design has been approved, we begin the implementation phase. I work with, and bring to your project, experienced, reputable, high-quality licensed general contractors and subcontractors (such as painters, electricians, plumbers, tile setters, and cabinet makers). I prefer to bring my own team, as I’ve found the projects run more smoothly this way, but I am also able to work with your contractor if you already have one.

During construction, I am “on-call” to answer questions as they arise, whether from the clients or from the construction crew. I visit your site periodically, facilitate the procurement of all finish materials and products, and review items and finishes prior to installation.

My goal is always to be as helpful as possible to the contractor, making sure he has all the information/materials/instructions he needs to complete the project, and also be as helpful as possible to the clients, providing information, guidance and support.

4. FINISHING TOUCHES

I love to see a kitchen or bath finished with artwork and accessories. As the final part of my implementation service, we set a budget for purchases, then I select, shop for, and place those finishing touches like artwork, towels and accessories, leaving you with a completed project ready for those great “after” photos.

The ideal client for this service says “Anna, please put together a design for me, with a detailed plan and selections for my space. I want you to take care of all the ordering and final placement of everything.”

Due to the full-service nature of these types of design projects, customized quotes will be provided after meeting with you to discuss the scope of the project. Typically, full-service projects tend to run between 20-50 hours, depending on the complexity of the design and the number of rooms, and are billed at $175/hr.

HOW IT WORKS:

We begin with an initial consultation to determine your wants and needs. We look at your project together, discuss design and functionality issues, and look at your existing furnishings to see how they might be incorporated into your new design. Within 24-48 hours, I will prepare a proposal for you that outlines the project details, the services I will provide to design and implement your project, and my design fees. If you accept the proposal, then you sign the agreement, send a deposit, and I begin the work of designing your space.

At our next appointment, I present my design plan to you. We make any needed adjustments, you sign off on the design, and then the fun begins. This package makes life as easy for you as possible— I will take care of everything— all the ordering, coordinating any contractors needed (painters, installers, etc), deliveries and final installation of your new design.

This service includes:

  • Initial consultation in your home
  • Assessment to determine style and budget
  • Design plan with floor plans and elevations as needed, paint selection/color scheme, furniture, lighting fabrics, flooring, etc., presented to you in your home, with swatches and samples as appropriate.
  • Ordering, receiving, inspecting, and delivery coordination of all specified materials (All materials are approved by you before ordering, and are billed separately from design fees.)
  • Referrals to trusted service providers as needed. (Examples: painting, electrical work, flooring installation, window treatment installation etc. Fees for construction services are paid for directly by you to them.)
  • Final placement of all furnishings in your home
  • Complete design assistance throughout entire project.

The ideal client for this service says: “Anna, please come over and meet with me for a few hours in my home— I have lots of questions for you and need some direction. Can you give me a few hours of your time?

HOW IT WORKS:

We schedule a half-day meeting (up to 4 hours) and I’m yours for that time. We can spend some time together talking about your design ideas and dilemmas, I can do some floor plan sketches, and we can sit at your computer and shop online for the perfect items for your home. We can even spend some time rearranging some of your existing furnishings.
